The Riga XL is the ultimate greenhouse for dedicated gardeners who need a year round greenhouse with a lot of work space. As the largest of the Riga line it is both wider and taller than other Riga models, and is available in several different lengths. It’s 16mm triple-walled polycarbonate glazing panels are also the most insulative of the Riga line, twice as thick as those of the Riga and Riga ‘s’. Like all Riga models, its sloped side walls are reinforced with 13 gauge aluminum framing and are incredibly strong and will stand up to high winds, pounding hail, and heavy snows. (In fact, the curvature of the walls tends to make snow slide right off). These features make the Riga XL the ideal choice for wintertime gardening in challenging climates.

My girlfriend and I bought the largest one they offer which is the Riga XL at around $20k. We were unable to put it together ourselves as it's just way too complicated for two people on this largest model. The instructions are not very clear neither are the Youtube videos. However, the company stepped in and they sent installers which we had to pay for. This was a perfect solution for us as we also tried to find someone local to do the installation. The installers were able to complete it in about 3 days and they were extremely professional. We could not be happier with the outcome and the greenhouse. The greenhouse is very well built, sturdy and it's great for our higher winds on a mountain. I would not hesitate to buy one again and are thinking of getting another smaller model for a different part of the property. I really want to stress that if you are planning on putting it together yourself you will need more than 2 people unless you have about 3 weeks to spare. As a gardener this is truly a dream come true to own a large greenhouse which is sitting on a concrete pad.

Last year's tomato crop in my west Riga XL
The 2017 tomato crop was the must successful I've ever had. Our first harvest was April 30, and a plentiful supply continued until January 4. From the two Rigas we harvested close to 700 pounds of tomatoes, some of which were consumed fresh and most of which were juiced, canned, dried, or otherwise preserved for winter use. The indeterminate plants in the west greenhouse were each more than 26 feet long when I removed them in January.
I tried a new approach for plant support in the west Riga. I've included a succession of pictures taken through the 2017 season showing the progress. I hope you find them interesting.

Great piece of engineering, highly recommended.
This is not a cheap slap together greenhouse from China. This is a well engineered and very sturdy greenhouse. Materials are top shelf. You get what you pay for.
The customer service from Exaco is absolutely first rate. They have an assembly video that is 3D and makes the assembly so much better than just reading instructions from paper sheets. I used the two in conjunction, but mostly the video, and it went together well. When I had questions about anything these guys were right on top of it.
I put together a sub $3000 greenhouse imported from China a few years ago and there is no comparison. This German made greenhouse kit is pretty amazing.
If you want something that will last, this is the one I recommend.

One of the most solidly-constructed greenhouses I've seen. Customer service at Exaco was well beyond the 'call of duty". They helped thru the entire process, even after the structure was completed and stocked with plants.

Different Shelving Material
We purchased our first Riga in 2005 and we really like the clear shelving that came with it. It was strong and we could put plants underneath and they still got the light. We purchased a Riga XL in 2015 and the new shelves are white, don't hold as much weight, had to be cut down to fit in the framing and have to be removed completely when growing plants underneath them. Other than this we have really enjoyed the durability and craftmanship as well as the design. Andrew and staff were very knowledgeable and readily accessible for any problems that came up in raising the roof! We have offered to use ours as a model in the area we live for others to view.

Great product and best support I've ever seen.
I looked for a large greenhouse for a year. My wife and I choose the Riga XL because of the size and style. Best of all, we are super happy with the quality of the greenhouse and the support we got from Andrew and his team. I'm 63 and my wife is a little younger. We were able to put it together by ourselves with the great advice we got from Andrew. It took time, and at times was a little frustrating, but it was well worth it. When we ran into problems, Andrew solved the problems quickly and without question about whose fault it was. If I were to buy another greenhouse, The Riga and Andrew would be my first and only choice.

I’m wondering if you could advise on a size (BTU) heater I would need for my size greenhouse in my climate?

Sorry – the answer is not that simple. For one thing I do not know your climate. You will have to tell me. And next: how warm do you want to keep it in side: over wintering outdoor plants requires less heat than, orchids or growing form seeds during the winter.
Secondly, it greatly depends on what you are doing with your greenhouse – for example the more plants the fuller it is the more natural heat is retained and generated. There is a big different between half full and full: can make 10-15º difference. Large raised beds are a great heat generator.
Another option is: to use 1 or 2 large open troughs – 70 gal. + (full with water) (from say Tractor Supply) – these to can add 10-15º at night. And at the same time they offer additional humidity during the cold winter months.

Do any of the RIGA XL come with double doors?

The Riga XL Greenhouses do not have a double door option – only a front door and back door. The door opening is quite large at 37.5” x 74”.

If I plan to build a concrete footing to support the XL 5, is there an advantage to using the aluminum foundation?

Larry, the foundation frame is an optional item but if you get it you do not need a perimeter wall made of concrete. Different retailers sell it different ways - some include the foundation frame in their kits. The original Costco kit is the best deal. Costco dropped it but it is now available from several of our other retailers.

I am trying to get permits for the Riga XL to be in my yard in the city. They say they need a snow load rating and wind rating. Are those available for this model at all?

I've had my Riga XL greenhouse for about a year. As the weather has gotten warmer (over 100 inside the greenhouse) the vents at the top are not opening as they have done in the past. Any suggestions how to get them working again?
