The product is inserted into a drill to blend paints and other construction materials. It is designed to create a vertical and horizontal blending. This is especially useful with the Ralph Lauren paint line (suedes and other faux finish paints) because the heavy materials in these paints settle to the bottom of the can and need to be re-blended if the paint is not used within 24 hours. Because the larger mixers are designed to be used with heavier materials (i.e. roofing cement, driveway sealer) and in larger buckets, these are often displayed in the contractor section and/or building departments of major chains, not just paint departments.

The 2 larger sizes of Exomixers are displayed in unique fold-over boxes on shelves, while the lighter 1-gallon mixer can also be placed on clip-strips.
