Overview

The Kombi Raised Bed & Cold Frame combines the best of a raised planting bed and a protective cold frame in one innovative design. Perfect for gardeners seeking easy access, early-season starts, and year-round planting in a compact footprint.

The Kombi Raised Bed & Cold Frame delivers a versatile growing space that adapts through seasons and plant cycles. The lower raised-bed section offers deep, comfortable planting space for vegetables, herbs, or larger container plants at a convenient standing height. Above that, the cold frame section, with twin-wall polycarbonate panels, shelters your plants from early-spring frost, late-season chills, and unpredictable weather. Use the two halves in tandem: start your seedlings in the cold frame while you fill the raised bed, or continue growing hardy crops right into colder months for an extended harvest.

Because the raised bed and cold frame can also be used independently, you’re not locked into one mode of growing. The entire assembly rests on six ground stakes for stability and features UV-resistant materials that last year after year outdoors. Whether you’re maximizing a patio, the edge of a garden, or a balcony, the Kombi unit offers a complete planting solution in a single, compact footprint.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a cold frame used for?

Commonly used for lettuce beds, cool weather vegetables, flowers, and other smaller vegetables and plants. They keep the plants warm and also protect them from wind and heavy rain. The lid can be closed when the temperatures drop or the lid can be propped open when it warms up. The polycarbonate panels allow UV light in so the plants can grow. They can also be used to over winter plants or harden off young plants before the go in the ground.

Where’s the best place to set up a cold frame?

Since cold frames are used in the colder months of the year, you will want to set up your cold frame in a sunny spot, ideally south facing.

I removed the protective film on my cold frame. How can I tell which side is UV protected and should face the outside?

f the film on the polycarbonate panels are removed and you are unsure of which side has the UV coating, follow the steps below:

Take a UV Flashlight and aim the flashlight down the flutes of the polycarbonate. The side with UV coating will illuminate in a green color and the side without UV coating will not be affected.
