Overview

The Double Cold Frame provides gardeners with two adjoining, sheltered compartments to extend their growing season and organize plants more efficiently. Each compartment has its own lid and controls, allowing you to harden off seedlings in one side while overwintering tender plants in the other.

The Double Cold Frame is designed for the gardener who needs a versatile solution but lacks the space for a full greenhouse. With its twin compartments, you can start early-spring seedlings in one section and transition mature plants into the second, or use one side for germinating and the other for overwintering. The clear 4 mm polycarbonate panels allow light to pass through while protecting against frost, and the roomy footprint fits many garden beds, patios, or raised bed systems.

Assembly is straightforward thanks to the Easy-Fix click-together system, and when the season ends, you can disassemble the unit and store it flat until spring. Ground stakes and locking lids help secure the structure against wind, making it reliable even in transitional weather. With its smart design and dual-zone convenience, the Double Cold Frame is an ideal choice for gardeners who want more control over their growing space without committing to a greenhouse.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a cold frame used for?

Commonly used for lettuce beds, cool weather vegetables, flowers, and other smaller vegetables and plants. They keep the plants warm and also protect them from wind and heavy rain. The lid can be closed when the temperatures drop or the lid can be propped open when it warms up. The polycarbonate panels allow UV light in so the plants can grow. They can also be used to over winter plants or harden off young plants before the go in the ground.

Where’s the best place to set up a cold frame?

Since cold frames are used in the colder months of the year, you will want to set up your cold frame in a sunny spot, ideally south facing.

I removed the protective film on my cold frame. How can I tell which side is UV protected and should face the outside?

f the film on the polycarbonate panels are removed and you are unsure of which side has the UV coating, follow the steps below:

Take a UV Flashlight and aim the flashlight down the flutes of the polycarbonate. The side with UV coating will illuminate in a green color and the side without UV coating will not be affected.
